Hala Hashem, Senior Partner, is a seasoned expert in Commercial, Corporate, Contracts, Insurance, Employment and Labor Laws. Having joined ZH in 1980, she leads the incorporation and the general company secretarial work division of the Firm's Corporate and M&A Department.
With 45 years of experience, Hala has advised a considerable number of local and international clients on doing business in Egypt. She masters the skill of gaining the trust of clients – a fact proven by the long-standing relationship she has built with her clients who continue working with her after the incorporation of their companies. Established and new clients seek her legal input to the day-to-day issues they face such as addressing labor issues, reviewing various types of contracts, undertaking corporate secretarial work, etc. Examples of Hala’s clients include AIG Egypt Insurance Company, Merck Sharp & Dohme and Landmark – among many others.
Furthermore, Hala is Board Member of Al Nour Wal Amal Association (Light & Hope) for the Care and Integration of Blind Girls and Women, Secretary General of the Magdi Yacoub Foundation from establishment until September 2014 and from then on, Member of the Board of Trustees, and Member of the Board of Trustees of the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development. She is also member of the Egyptian Society of International Law, the Egyptian Society of Economy and Legislation, and the Egyptian Swiss Friendship Association.
She was recommended by the Legal 500 for her expertise in the Corporate practice and the Employment practice for the years 2018, 2020, and 2021. In 2016, Hashem has was recognized by the Legal 500 UK as “one of the principal counterparts for German institutions in Cairo”.
She has been admitted before the Egyptian Court of Cassation since 2002. She is trilingual, proficiently mastering Arabic, English, and German.
Hala has graduated from the Deutsche Evangelische Oberschule in Cairo in 1974, has achieved the B.A. from the American University in Cairo with Highest Honors in 1979, the LL.B. from Cairo University’s Faculty of Law in 1979, and the LL.M. from Harvard Law School in 1984.
