We are pleased to announce that we have advised Antipollution Egypt SAE on the waste management & services agreement signed with Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) and the Ministry of Transportation’s Egyptian Marine Supply and Contracting Company to provide waste management services at the northern entrance of the Suez Canal.
The signature of the Agreement marks a big step in the commencement of operations by which Antipollution Egypt shall undertake to collect, transport, process and safely dispose of ship-generated wastes and cargo residues, for all vessels passing through the Suez Canal. Marine Supply and Contracting Company — affiliated with the Ministry of Transport — will supervise and oversee contractors hired to collect waste from the passing ships under the supervision of Antipollution Egypt SAE.
Antipollution Egypt is a joint stock company that was formed as a partnership between the Suez Canal Authority (represented by two of its wholly-owned subsidiaries), Vasileiadis Group of Companies (V Group) (a privately owned corporation headquartered in Piraeus, Greece), and Eric Adam, Egyptian-Greek businessman. Antipollution was established with a mandate to introduce the service of solid and liquid waste collection as part of the logistical services provided to all vessels transiting through the Suez Canal.
Our team of lawyers advising V Group/Antipollution was led by our Partner, Hossam T. Hafez, and included Youssef E., Associate, and Youssef Hendy, Junior Associate.
