Marwan Farid, Senior Associate, is leading the Intellectual Property practice at Zaki Hashem, Attorneys at Law. He joined the Firm in 2023 with an extensive experience in Intellectual Property Law and its litigation and enforcement. Before joining the Firm and as a member of one of the top-tier law firms in Egypt, he had practiced IP prosecution, enforcement, and litigation from all aspects as well as franchise and license agreements. He was also responsible for drafting petitions, opposition, legal memorandums, C&D letters.
Additionally, he has represented one of the top tier IP companies in the region and acted as Head of its IP Legal Department whereby his responsibilities included fully managing the IP portfolios of multi-national companies in several industries. The legal services he has rendered to these clients included litigation, enforcement services, and in-particular infringement cases in Egypt and other countries in the MENA region.
With over 13 years of experience, selected examples of the matters he has handled include:
- Representing a leading company in the medical sector in cybercrime case – Infringement of Philips Medical Software Rights by suspect infringer through selling unauthorized digital certificates known as IST certificates and using them to bypass the security systems established by the company within its electronic infrastructure. - Representing a leading company in the real estate and recreation sectors in relation to Infringement Case of Trademark through enforcing the company’s IP rights against the suspect infringing company before the IP governmental authorities. (In progress)
- Representing a multi-national company specialized in confectionaries in relation to infringement case of trademark through enforcing the client IP rights against infringing company imitating the company’s design packaging of its wafer’s products to utilize the brand fame for gaining commercial revenues through deceptive manner. - Representing Auto Mobility SAE in the petitions filed against the Trademark Department contesting the decisions to reject the registration of trademark ‘’Auto Mobility’’ in Egypt. (In progress)
- Representing a global technology company in several lawsuits through appealing the Grievances Committee’ of the Trademarks Department before the Judicial Administrative Court to contest its decision rejecting the application presented by the company to register its valuable word mark and iconic symbol. - Advising MAF Properties L.L.C. (UAE) on a new Branding project related to Landmark Business and Lifestyle Hub in West Cairo and setting up IP strategic planning for brand name ‘’Junction’’ selection process and Trademark brand protection. (2025)
- Representing a leading communication and internet services company in lawsuits through appealing the Grievances Committee’ of the Trademarks Department before the Judicial Administrative Court to contest its decision rejecting the application presented by the company to register its valuable word mark. - Advising Qualiagro S.A. on plant varieties protection strategies and national crop listing under Egyptian jurisdiction as well as handling the protection and registration procedures before the competent authorities. (2025)
- Advising AB Electrolux on restructure of the company’s IP assets in Egypt/Cross border as part of a mega corporate restructure project. (2024)
- Advising Edgewell Personal Care Brands L.L.C. on recording of trademarks assignment project in relation to transfer of ownership of 70 trademark brands owned by the company. (2025)

Marwan is member of the Egyptian Bar Association since 2014 and was admitted before the Court of Appeal in 2025. He is also a member of the Egyptian Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AEPPI) and the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (Association Internationale pour la Protection de la Propriété Intellectuelle (AIPPI)). Additionally, he is certified as an Intellectual property agent by the Egyptian Intellectual Property Authority (EGIPA). He is proficient in Arabic and English, and was ranked by the Legal 500 as “Leading Associate” in the Intellectual Property practice in 2025 and 2026.
He obtained the LL.B. from the Faculty of Law (English Section) at Ain Shams University in 2013 as well as a Diploma in Private Egyptian Law in 2014. He also obtained the LL.M. in International Commercial Law from Ain Shams University in 2015.
